A Year Ago: Elias Presley live on the GRACELAND SOUNDSTAGE

This is a review of the great MAGIC MOMENTS Concert on New Year’s Eve 2018 by Adriaen Valéry Burgis in Memphis, Tennessee (the Home of Elvis Presley) performed on the legendary GRACELAND SOUNDSTAGE.

As “Jessie Elias Garon Presley” (Elias Presley) Adriaen Valéry Burgis follows his passion as a singer and interprets (performs) the legendary songs of Elvis Aaron Presley in his own way. Not as Elvis impersonator, but in the spirit of the inventor with deep love, understanding and an exceptional voice.

Germany has a lot of claims to fame. The country has produced innovative scientists, ground-breaking philosophers, brilliant artists and composers, not to mention some of the best beers in the world; and with award-winning actor and singer Adriaen Valéry Burgis on the list, they can count captivating singing talent among their many notable attributes.

The day after the concert was a very special day to Adriaen Valéry Burgis… he was invited to an inside Graceland Tour. Graceland was wonderful. Though you sometimes might hear people say that it’s not as big as they had expected, I didn’t feel that way at all. It’s a mighty big house, and yet it still has the feel of a home. There are moments on the Graceland tour that are simply fun, such as the rooms dedicated to Elvis’ gold records and jumpsuits, yet there are also moments that are sad and poignant, such as when you find yourself standing before the very same piano that Presley played on August 16, 1977 – just hours before his death.

You see a swing-set in the backyard, where his daughter once played, and a pool where good times were had by family and friends. And yet just 40 yards away, you also visit his grave.

“I was allowed to sit at the piano for a moment of inspiration and closeness to my idol whose music has shaped my life and me! The place where Elvis invented his most famous songs and shared them with his family for the first time. I will never forget that in my life and it drives me even more to bring his heartfelt love of music in my own interpretations of his songs…” said Adriaen Valéry Burgis in an interview after the Graceland Tour.

Elvis loved to play the piano and sing gospel tunes and other songs with his friends and family gathered around. So as soon as he purchased Graceland, Elvis converted he mansion’s sunroom into a music room. The music room is predominantly gold and currently contains a black Story and Clark piano. This piano is one of three that were used at Graceland over the years.

The piano that stayed in room the longest was a white and gold baby grand, which was replaced by a grand piano that Priscilla had covered with gold leaf for Elvis as an anniversary gift. The gold grand piano proved too large for the room, according to official accounts from the Presley estate, and it was replaced by the black Story and Clark.

A big Thank You to Priscilla… I’ll never forget these days in Graceland!
